In 1972, the baseball franchise formerly known as the Washington Senators moved from Washington, D.C. to Arlington, Texas, and became the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers belong to the West Division of Major League Baseball’s American League and call Rangers Ballpark in Arlington their home. Thomas O. Hicks purchased the Rangers in 1998, and under Hicks’ ownership, the club has captured two American League West Division titles, winning a franchise record 95 games in 1999. Throughout the baseball club’s history, many great players have worn the Texas Rangers’ uniform, including Ted Williams, Gaylord Perry, Ferguson Jenkins, Jim Sundberg, Rafael Palmeiro, Alex Rodriguez, Charlie Hough, Rusty Greer, Ivan Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, Sammy Sosa and Nolan Ryan. In 1999, Nolan Ryan became the first player ever elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame to have a Rangers’ cap placed on his plaque.

The Dallas Stars were the 1999 Stanley Cup Champions, Stanley Cup finalists in 2000, won the NHL’s Presidents’ Trophy for the best regular season record in both 1997-98 and 1998-99, and have captured seven division titles and two Western Conference division titles under Hicks’ ownership.
